Ulster Tatler Interiors (October 2010) interview with Francis Donnelly
What are the best and/or most challenging aspects of your role?
"Furniture and in particular kitchens will always challenge you. You cant be half hearted either- when you become involved in kitchens and I have been directly involved in their design and manufacture since 1986 you become an obsessive. There are so many examples of good and bad practice, so many good and bad products but so many good days – it just consumes you. Ideas can begin from the most unlikely sources but my grounding came from my experience in beautiful antique furniture, whereby scale, design, symmetry and materials were combined to levels that are very rarely achieved today."
"Our workshop is really the jewel in our crown, it gives us the flexibility to design without restrictions and to create something unique. Its our ability to make these things locally that counts, we believe its important that our customers know that they are helping to create and sustain local jobs in a business that is nearly all about imports."
